How to Find Your Windows Computer’s Name

In order to find your computer name, please follow these steps:

Windows XP Operating System

  1. Press and hold the Windows key and then press the Pause key (simultaneously) to open the System Properties window.

Click on the Computer Name tab.  The computer name will be located in the Full computer name field.  The computer name will be listed as <Computer Name>.<Domain Name>.  You only have to provide the name of the computer up to the first period.  For example, if the full computer name is “ABC-JDOE.abccorp.local”, you only have to provide us with “ABC-JDOE”.

Windows Vista/7/8 Operating System

  1. Press and hold the Windows key and then press the Pause key (simultaneously) to open the System Properties window.

  2.  Under the Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings section, you will find your computer name.  The computer name will be located in the Computer Name  field.
